Difference Between Type 1 Diabetes And Type 2 Diabetes

A very important topic is the difference between Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes, as many are unaware of the differentiation. Type 1 Diabetes mellitus is the auto-immune type where there is an autoimmune destruction of the pancreatic ÃŽ ² cells. Pancreatic ÃŽ ² cells are where insulin is produced. Eventually, this auto-immune destruction leads to a total absence of insulin production. It is not until the pancreas is unable to produce sufficient amounts of insulin that manifestations occur. The manifestations include sudden/recent excessive thirst, hunger, and urination. It is also accompanied by weight loss. In Type 1 DM, exogenous insulin is a requirement for the patient to live (as it is not produced at a certain point) – otherwise the patient will develop DKA, which is life threatening. Type 2 DM is the most common type of diabetes, 90-95% patients have Type 2 DM. In Type 2 DM, the production of insulin isn’t lot, but rather the insulin production is insufficient/poorly utilized by the tissues (or both). In other words, endogenous insulin is present. Type 2 DM is linked to increasing age, obesity/being overweight, and family history of the disorder. In Type 2 DM, there are contributing factors to development: insulin resistance, decreased ability of the pancreas to produce insulin, inappropriate glucose production by the liver, and altered production of hormones and cytokines by adipose tissue (adipokines). The Effects Of Occupational Therapy On Enhancing Quality...

The Effects of Occupational Therapy in Enhancing Quality of Life for Individuals With Dementia Dementia is a chronic syndrome that involves a progressive deterioration of brain function and leaves a person to suffer from not only a cognitive decline but physical, emotional, and behavioral changes as well. There are over ten different types of dementia and each cause significant changes in the make up of the brain and the brain function. Those changes include deposits of protein that form plaques, twisted strands of protein that form tangles, blood vessel blockages, fluid build up, and Thiamine deficiency. The two most common forms of dementia are Alzheimer’s disease, which accounts for an estimated 60 percent to 80 percent of cases, and†¦show more content†¦However, true dementia affects more than just short term memory and recall, this syndrome progressively debilitates every aspect of their life and ultimately alters the quality of life in which they live. Typical s igns and symptoms of dementia are memory loss, impaired judgement, difficulty with abstract thinking, inappropriate behavior, loss of communication skills, disorientation to time and place, neglect of personal care and safety, paranoia, and agitation. Family members and friends of those bothered with dementia are also challenged as their loved ones ability to function throughout activities of daily living and do so safely is compromised. Six drugs have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that temporarily improve symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease by increasing the amount of chemical neurotransmitters in the brain. The effectiveness of these drugs varies from person to person. While these drugs cannot cure dementia or repair brain damage, they may improve symptoms and create a better quality of life as the disease progresses. Non-pharmacologic therapies are often used with the goal of maintaining or improving cognitive function, the ability to perform instrumen tal activities of daily living, or overall quality of life. They also may be used with the goal of reducing behavioral symptoms such as depression, paranoia, apathy, wandering, sleep disturbances, agitation and aggression (2015). Time Bank Free Essays

Time bank is a unique organisation that holds vast amount of knowledge and skills belonging to its customer. The way time bank operates is by allowing individuals to exchange their knowledge, skills with others. The concept of the Time Bank is based on the fact that people are all individually different, we all have different types of knowledge and we all have different set of skills, no one is good at everything, the typical situation is that we only have the capacity to be good at certain things and not all things. We will write a custom essay sample on Time Bank or any similar topic only for you Order Now In a world without Time Bank, we have to pay for things we can’t do, for example I am not an expert with computers, if my computer breaks down then I would have to pay for someone to fix it. However, with the existence of Time Bank, I can exchange a skill which I am good at for someone else’s help with the repair of my computer. To illustrate this example more specifically, If a member of the Time Bank has spent two hours repairing my computer then that person would have banked two hours worth of time with the Bank, in another word, that person will have two hours worth of credit. When that person needs help with something he has difficulty with, he is entitled to two hours free help from another individual. So individuals can build up their credit by helping others with things that they are good at. This way, people can save time and money in dealing with difficult tasks. It is clear that Time Bank offers a service that many needs, but no such provider exists in the current market in Colchester. However, as Time Bank is such a new concept promotion of the Bank is vital. Effective promotional method needs to be used to introduce people to this new concept.I shall look into these methods in the rest of this essay, but before doing so, it is important to assess who would use Time Bank, i. e. its target audience. 2. Target Audience: One of the key reason that people will want to use Time Bank will be because that they can save money, from this it follows that Time Bank is unlikely to attract very wealthy individuals. Further, it is likely that only people who can offer knowledge or skill in return will use the Bank, this will mean that the younger and older groups are probably excluded from the target audience, as they are likely to be limited with the help they can offer. So, main target group of Time Bank is likely to be working individuals and possibly students. So, we have to have this in mind when selecting the promotion methods for the Bank. 3. Advertising: Placing adverts on local newspapers, radios and internet, magazines and possibly on television may be a good way to build the awareness of the Bank’s presence. Yellow pages is another idea, however, with the expansion of the internet Yellow pages is not as much used by people as before. So, instead, it may be a better idea to place advert on the internet, for example, Yell Colchester. With newspapers and radios it will be a good idea to place the advert on popular Colchester local papers and local radio stations such as BBC Essex and Heart Essex. In terms of magazines, if possible, it would be a good idea to select magazines that our target audience is most likely to read, something like magazines advising on money matters or D. I. Y. magazines (as it is likely that people who are interested in D. I. Y will find it more enjoyable to exchange their skills and bank their time with the Time Bank). Putting up adverts on the internet is also a good idea, an excellent website to place advert is www. sk. com, as people who go on to ask. com will normally be in the need for some kind of help, so an advert on this website will capture some of our key audiences. It may be a better idea to take advantage of free advertising, such as placing adverts on Gumtree Colchester. Putting up posters in University campus may also be a good idea, students are likely to be a key user of the Time Bank, the reason being that students do not earn any income as a result they are likely to prefer to save money by using the Time Bank.Sponsoring a University newsletter or website is another idea to build awareness in the student market, the sponsorship will enable Time Bank’s logo to appear and be seen by students. In terms of working individuals, it may be a good idea to put up posters in job searching agencies such as Reed, or paying for an advertising space on job searching websites. Distributing leaflets is another possible idea, we could position few leaflet distributors on busy locations in Colchester, such as city centre dur ing busy times such as weekends. 4. Publicity:Publicity is a great way to promote the Time Bank, as most publicity can be done for free and more details of the Time Bank can be exposed compared to the advertising option. Writing articles on topic related to the Time Bank: The Time Bank can write an article relating to saving time and money and try to place it on to publications that our target audience might read, as mentioned before, magazine relating to money matters or D. I. Y. magazines are possible options. To target students it may be a good idea to write articles for school newsletters. However, the problem that we may encounter with this promotion method is that there is no guarantee that the article we write will be accepted and published by our preferred magazines. So, to enhance the chance of our article being published it is a good idea to provide a well written article. Magazines, tends to have a long lead time, writing articles for internet magazines might be a better option, as there are higher demand for articles with internet magazines. Newspaper is another source we can supply our articles to.Newspapers have a much shorter lead time than magazines and they are often looking for materials. So, it may be a good idea looking to writing an article to local Colchester newspapers. Press releases: Sending out press releases to local newspapers is another effective promotional tool. However, the press release must be newsworthy in order for it to be published by local newspapers. The fact that there is no other organisation that is providing the same type of service as the Time Bank will make the press release newsworthy. Online Forums:Posting message on online forums is a cost effective way of promotion. There will be tons of D. I. Y forums, money savings forums, student forums etc on the net, posting messages or answering queries posted by other people will promote the Time Bank. When answering queries, we can post a link of the time bank’s website or/ and explain the workings of the Time Bank in the process of answering. www. Ask. com is another great internet place to get free advertising; free advertising can be gained by answering queries posted by people on the Q amp; A page.Try to get an interview slot on local radio shows: It will be ideal is a interview slot can be secured on either Heart Essex or BBC Essex, as these two stations are quite popular stations it will mean that they will reach out to a wide rage of audience. An interview discussing the how the Time Bank works will not only give Time Bank free advertising but also can enable people a better understanding of what Time Ban is and how it works. And this is important due to the fact that the Time Bank is such a new concept. 5. Conclusion – evaluation of the promotional methods:In the above sections I have discussed many possible promotional methods for the Time Bank. Each method have its pros and cons; advertising on the television, radio, newspapers, internet and magazines are an effective way of reaching a wide audience and is a good way of building brand awareness of Time Bank. But, such way of advertising can be costly. It was mentioned that it is possible to get free advertising from certain websites such as Gumtree Colchester, it is suggested that free advertising offered by websites should be taken full advantage of.I then looked into ways of promotion by gaining free publicity on magazines, local newspapers, local radios and internets. I think that emphasis should be placed on these types of promotion, the reason being that such methods are cost effective and it will enable people to get a better understanding of the Time Bank. Time Bank, being a new thing in the market will mean that careful explanations on the concept and workings will be needed for people to fully understand. With the advertising methods, only limited information can be displayed, but with publicity much more detail can be introduced. So, the best way to promote in my view is to select a few paid advertising methods that can target our key audiences, such as putting a paid advert on ask. com and on yell. Colchester and take advantage of free online advertising as much as possible to build Time Bank’s brand awareness. A big part of the promotion should be based on publicity, efforts should be devoted to try to get articles and press releases published in relevant magazines, and newspapers etc and get interview slots on popular local radio stations such as Heat Essex and BBC Essex. Question: Discuss about the Bid Taxi Business Operations. Answer: Introduction It is imperative today that all kind of businesses faces their share of complexity especially in establishing an impeccable business operation. The operations of an organization can be never being considered simple or smooth from one point to another. It is important that the companies treat the operations as an important web of procedures (Xiong, Cheng Gui, 2017). Such procedures can be termed as the business operation and every company treats it in a different manner. The report will discuss in detail about Bid Taxi and their unique business operations. Business operations of Bid Taxi The taxi industry is in existence for so many years now and since the government has been always very concerned about the transportation of the city, the industry has been always on rising. Also, with the rise of urbanization, so many areas are developing and getting bigger along with the density of population which increases the traffic issues in cities. The problem has gotten bigger and prominent as well as the disadvantages of taxi management are constantly impacting the overall quality of life and also impact the overall legitimacy of execution. The concept followed by the company comes in two main formats (Putri Kwon, 2017). The first concept is specifically for the customer and there is another exclusive for the driver. The first format is implemented when the consumers get the opportunity to register on the company's app or website. This is done mainly because they can experience the services of the company. In the second format, the entire attention on those consumers who are willing to partner with the company and the important is played by the driver. The format gets drivers and the consumer from a group of people in the public. The company is very unique from the concept point of view since the services are given because of what consumer or buyer hires in terms of the driver for the services. The application of the organization list down the three or four most efficient drivers along with data about the journey as well as information about the journey. The consumer can then accept a specific bid which he or she finds suitable as per their needs. The driver too is provided with all the options to choose or reject the invitation from the customers (Kim, 2015). They also get the option to suggest the overall cost of the trip according to their demand. The company functions on a flexible type of business operation. This makes the organization effective and more efficient in getting more loyal customers. Business operations also help the organization through apps to bid for the trip and for this usage of smartphone become crucial. This can also be done with the help of the website. The app also uses many types of information systems and technologies. Technology like MIS which is called as Management Information system, Expert system and many more. Moreover, many other business operations can also be part of the overall success of the organization. Following is the detailed discussion of all the business operations of the company: - Booking: the first important step of the operations is when the customer will book the cab by using the application or website. This helps the company to allow drivers to the customers. The customer will also select the right bid of the consumers and it consists of the overall cost of the journey along with facility (Ma, 2015). The feature also helps the company to introduce new methods which are in demand in the industry along with boosting the overall growth of the business. Dispatch: this step helps the company to effectively deploy the manual setup of the current allowance. The step makes sure that the customer of the company is able to book the cab and then expect the cab to arrive at the right time. In addition, the allotting the allowance time in the business is crucial since this step is the differentiation point from any other services. Also, the time of allowance is the significant component in the development of demand of the business. Maintenance: the company is extremely flexible and advance as far as technology is concerned. The company also ensure the confidentiality of the customer information as they share some personal details while registration (Pollman Barry, 2016). So, it becomes for the company to manage the information effectively with the help of command software services. The company is also involved in the mentioned software for making the overall structure more trusted and robust. This helps the company to maintain and secure data of the drivers as well as customers. Accounting: this step helps in bring the accounting services in a hands-on manner because of the implementation of accounting structure which automatic by nature. This further assists the company in keeping the right record of accounting of the trip so differentiation is proper charges. This is also part of accountability for handling the invoice of consumer and driver. This also helps in handling scanned documents of a driver. In addition, the customer can know the vehicle and also rank the driver as per the service quality (Shaw Skywalker, 2017). The approach helps in attracting more people to bid on apps which helps in improving the structure. Recommendations It is very crucial to have constant improvement in the systems like accuracy in pick up location which is GPS based services and this requires constant upgradation. This further can be done in an effective manner by placing a name of the place. Wrong interpretation of the address is a common problem in GPS system and it ends up wasting a lot of time with the customers and the driver. The consumer can also anytime contact the driver and help him with location but in many cases, the customer is not permitted to call the driver so that ratings can be maintained by the driver. With the help of Bluetooth or broadband connection, services can be enhanced and the possible detection of location for the driver. It is important to have detailed knowledge so that drive will find out the right location in right manner. right information helps in detecting the right location and reduction in wastage of time. This will further help the driver to recognize the location over the map in a much easy m anner (Zhang, 2014). Overall improvement of the quality must also be organized from time to time for the driver. The training program, all data for having right rating experience must be provided which also consist of rules that must be followed by the drivers. It is also important to have a completely separate service for aged people, women and infants. In addition, some services of the vehicle must be conserved just for children, aged and women. Safety of the data is very crucial for the company for which it is extremely important that all information is saved in recorded in an encrypted format. This further will ensure that data is safe on the network and also ensure that intruders can be caught at the right time. The system must help the driver by providing them needed advice which in long run will help the company to get more profitable (Zhang, 2014). Following is the detailed discussion of suggestions: The company will have to train the driver to effectively deal with any kind of distraction. It is also important for the company to train the drivers with all possible skills for a safety. The common notion among the drivers is that they are efficient drivers but with all the instructions from a system and attending calls from the customers can easily distract them. It is crucial for the drivers to ensure that they serious about attending all the duties carefully with any unwanted distraction. The best answer to this challenge is to train them with the help of secure course of driving along with all needed instructions to the driver that is important for them to follow. Usually, driver learns about the foundation of it on the job by driving and following all the rules. To ensure that, it is important for the company to provide right kind of training to drivers especially about the rules of the road, maintenance of the taxi and secure course of driving can be part of the process (Hill , 2015). To provide training to the drivers, the company will have to ensure that they are given all the important guidelines along with different cases like to how one can perform general repair tasks, following traffic rules and many more. The right kind of training must be provided to the driver that will ensure the overall safety of consumers along with drivers because there will be some reduction in the overall rate of accidents. Despite age, experience and qualification of the driver, the company must follow strict training practices and all the employees must be part of such operations. Another important advice for the company is to have a structured feedback system from the consumers. This will help them to maintain the services and take the corrective measures wherever required (Green Maximin, 2015). The customers can provide their feedback related to overall experience which can help the organization in analysing the consumers need so that services can be provided to them as per the requirement and will help in recognizing the areas that need more improvement. The feedback from the consumer is not just advantageous for the consumers but also for the drivers since it will help in judging the skills of the drivers and recognizing areas which need some improvement. Learning is a continuous process of driving and in many families, it is one skill which is passed from one generation to other. It is very important for the drivers as a professional to take advice from more experienced drivers. This will assist them to provide best services for the consumers. In addition, the experienced drivers are more comfortable with all the rules and expected behaviour regarding behaviour on the road and this helps new one to gain more understanding of the rules and regulations. To learn skills from the experienced one can be advantageous in different ways since it will help the present set of drivers in increasing the skills. It is also important to note that one crucial feature is to be considered from experienced drivers since they know more about rules and regulation. Also, the driver must take an extra effort to know about different new rules and technological advancement (Yazici, Kamga Singhal, 2013). Conclusion The report discussed in detail about the operations of the company called as Bid Taxi. It is important to understand here that operations are part of the changes as and when business will grow. The common practice in an organization for few people to have more accountabilities and this is why the same is hardly considered as ideal in another which slightly bigger in size. Bid Taxi have to keep in mind that in long run, it is important for business operations to evolve along with the company and this way, glitched in the structure can be identified and corrective measure can be taken. The success of the company or any kind of failure depends heavily on the effectiveness of the operations (Yazici et al, 2013). The important question here is that what is the motive for such processes. It also covers stakeholder's expectation from an ideal plan and right steps. This can help in increasing the value of the company and this can be done by making the profit. The overall value enhances is im pacted by how well an organization can perform as far as finances are concerned. Bid Taxi will also have to understand that an organization can manage profit into continuous over a period of time because of which value increases in an exponential manner. Reference Green, D. HYPERLINK "https://itsnoura.wordpress.com/2013/06/05/i-suppose-im-not-the-only-one-that/" Wearing Hijab Because of a WrappedLollipop I suppose I'm not the only one that came across an ill-considered metaphor used to promote Islam or tackle the issue of the global controversy about women in Islam in a way that is utterlyabsurd and induces laughter and pity rather than insight about Islam. Considering the evolution of the human mind and the way a modern person thinks, it is obvious thatobjectifyingwomen is not aplausiblemethod to convince. I'm not speaking about a brilliant mind with a Nobel Prize, I'm referring to the typicalcitizenof our world today. I have seen this picture lately, and I'm sure that the one who designed it did so with good intentions, but I believe I have a couple of things to sayabout this ideology as a whole, and about the logic behind this picture as well. The common metaphor that is supposedly used to convince women to wear Hijab is hands down the most ridiculous of all. A piece of candy? A lollipop? Really? Not only is the comparison offensive since it basically suggests that a person with a functioning brain can be compared to a lollipop, it also suggests that an inevitable link exists between "being a wrapped lollipop" and being a good woman ( Lol I know, right?). I myself wear Hijab and I'm convinced that modesty and Hijab are indeed interrelated, but is it about the veil alone? Is it logical to assume that a "Lollipop's plastic wrap" or a veilundoubtedlylead to the inside being good in all scenarios? Is itplausibleand civilized to assume that an unveiled woman is an openinvitationtoharassmentsince she is surely not modest, because sheisn'twearing a veil? If the case was just a wrap for the body, then why are women required to abide by the rules of Islam regarding faith, morals, and daily behaviors? It is such a pity how they expect women nowadays to understand Hijab by such an example that reflects the most shallow ofunderstandings. Acts of worship would be a total waste of time and effort if not combined with an inner faith and an overall attitude that regulates behavior and harmonizes it with the exterior. A Hijab that is worn properly compliments modesty and sends a vibe of respect, that is for sure, buteliminatingthe spiritual side of it makes the veil just another piece of fabric. Nowadays, womenaren'tsimple-minded creature that stay at the kitchen, women are making it to the top positions of many fields. How is such an argument supposed to convince a modern day women? Also, the queen metaphor. I know nothing behind the logic behind it, that is if any exists. I'm unsure of how did the connection happen or why was the person who thought of it so ignorant of rational thinking. Not only does it rely on the most irrelevant aspects of being a queen, it is also used to justify the robbery of rights. Also, there is this false assumption in the "queen" metaphor, which is that a women's optimal dream is lethargy, dependency, and a careless life of rolling in cash earned by her husband. Well, you thought wrong, dear cave person. I think women nowadays would happily give up the chance of being a queen if it is theequivalentof what you are advertising. It is evident that such methods completely disregard intellect as something that must be addressed when convincing a person. Such metaphors may evoke laughter and sarcasm in the short-run, but they'll portray Islam as a naive religion, which needs candy, queens, nuts, and wires to convey its teachings. Less metaphors, and more logic-based arguments. More of intellectual dialoge , and less of second-graders' log ic.

buy custom Strengthening and Improving Medicare essay

buy custom Strengthening and Improving Medicare essay In the recent years, the government of United States has embarked on reviving Medicare, which is a unique program of social insurance providing the best health insurance mainly covering citizens aged 65 years and above, those less than 65 years and are physically disabled and other citizens having special needs. Medicare is administered by a Government body known as Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services(CMS) which oversees the overall implementation of Medicare laws (Joseph Dorothy, 2011). With many challenges faced by Medicare, the U.S. government has aggressively tried to control spending on healthcare using Medicare. The latest attempt to salvage extinction of Medicare by 2026 was an Act passed in 2003 referred to as The Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act. Medicare is generally grouped into two major categories namely: the Medicare Advantage Plan and the Original Medicare Plan. Each category comprises four main sub-categories referred to as Part A (Hospital Insurance), Part B (Medical Insurance), Part C (Medical Advantage Plans) and Part D (Prescription Drugs plans). Recently, Medicare has undergone through a number of legislations that have distinct impacts on the involved stakeholder namely patients, medical providers, and third-party payers. The log-debated legislation reform on healthcare became law in 2010 by signing of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (H.R.3590), and The Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act (H.R. 4872). The passing of these legislations into law had diverse impacts on the various stakeholders involved. First portions of this law will affect Part D of Medicare plan for description on drug plan for seniors and for other patients eligible in Medicare by closing the wide coverage mostly referred to as the doughnut hole. Patients will benefit from this law because its provisions state that from 2010, patients whose their drug costs get to the set coverage gap will receive a refund worth $250. The third-party payers will be impacted negatively because the law will result into increased premiums especially for the highincome earners. In addition, president Obama on 23rd March signed into law the famous Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. This Act made important changes to the Medicare Part A and part B. The patients will receive benefits .For instance, the act provides free Medicare of part A to the patients exposed to detrimental asbestos in Montana at the Lincoln County. These patients will be given free chance to enroll to the part B and part D Medicare coverage. However, the individuals must prove to have been clearly diagnosed with a disease, which is asbestos-related. In addition, this Act on Affordable Care makes good changes to Part B Medicare enrollment, as it will allow easy enrollments to part B with no increased premiums payments. Premiums paid by the third-party payers will increase to cater for the increased costs of this program. Furthermore, the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) that was enacted into law in 2008. This law was beneficial to patients as it changed the current laws on Medicare in order to assist the low-income patients and other beneficiaries (Leonard, 2008). The third-party payers will experience increased participation into the Savings Programs for Medicare. This is because, every year, the Medicare beneficiary costs increase thus raising coinsurance amounts and other deductibles to cover the ever-rising cost of this program (Marsh, 2008). In addition, monthly premiums also rises thus affecting the third-party people which can spell many hardships especially to senior and fixed income earners. Providers of health care will receive increased funding because of this implementation. This law increased rates of payments for the physicians services. The providers will experience improved and effective means of health claims payment. In addition, providers will experience reduced bureaucracy in payments of health costs. Cross-Ethnic Friendships in Schools Make Youths Feel Less Vulnerable, Assignment

Cross-Ethnic Friendships in Schools Make Youths Feel Less Vulnerable, Safer - Assignment Example It is important in any age, but it is especially important for teens. The psychological problems a child may face can result in serious conflict that can influence student’s study progress. In this situation a person can become lonely and this loneliness can influence his life greatly. It is necessary this issue should be analyzed properly. In the modern world psychological problems are closely connected with multicultural relations. This problem was depicted in the article under consideration. Analyzing primary and secondary sources we will try to prove that cross-ethnic environment is very beneficial for children. The number of researches has been devoted to the issue of cross-ethnic friendship in schools. Schools are the places, where the identity is formed. Here the children learn the main principals they will follow in their life, they learn how to communicate and how to behave. The work that was conducted in the University of California, Los Angeles and the University of Groningen in the Netherland has revealed the interdependence between the concepts of friendship and vulnerability. Researches state: â€Å"we propose that cross-ethnic friendships might partly account for the relation between classroom ethnic diversity and perceived vulnerability. Forming friendships with classmates from different ethnic groups as classroom diversity increases (greater availability) can help ward off potential harassers from those groups as well as buffer the negative effects of peer harassment† (Graham & Munniksma, 2013, p. 2). It can be easily explained that the representatives of different cultures try to unite and organize communities, where they may feel safe. The professors, who work in the abovementioned universities underlined such cross-ethnic communications and friendship can bring only advantages to students. However, it is essential to take into account a great number of peculiarities. The school program and other facilities should be formed cons idering special characteristics of every ethnic group in order to make the study comfortable for them. Such approach can solve many problems connected with the education itself as far as with the psychological issues. The researchers emphasize that the cross-ethnic friendship is not a rare phenomenon today. It is enough to visit an ordinary American middle-school class to see the diversity. The studies have shown that the more diverse the class, the more protected the children are. It means they do not feel themselves vulnerable. Real friendship is not temporary issue, and certainly it should not be considered such. People who have real friends are lucky ones. Those who have friends are psychologically stable. Friendship provides the emotional security and some kind of shelter. The study reveals that person who has at least one friend is not so helpless, is more self-assured and not psychologically vulnerable. The interesting question arises on the matter of similarity and dissimila rity between the students who study in semi diverse class and those who study in multi diverse one. In the most cases people choose friends considering their special characteristics, like gender, ethnicity, the color of skin etc. Actually, this is the main reason of discrimination which arises in our society today. The next important issue is propinquity. â€Å"

Influence of Creativity on Modern Education Research Paper

Influence of Creativity on Modern Education - Research Paper Example The range of creativity is believed to traverse across multitudes of academic disciplines, such as philosophy, psychology, theology, linguistics, technology, economics, etc. Creativity alone is considered a tree branched with general intelligence, neurological and mental processes, mental health, and the relationship between creative ability, and personality type (Dunkel 209-216). Science has bestowed the phenomenon of creativity with many definitions and approaches. However, targeted investigation has been focused on what makes some people more cognitive or creative than others. To this end, it is generally defined to be reliant on the Four Ps: Process, Person, Place and Product. ‘Process’ is defined to be the techniques and thought mechanism exercised for creative thinking. ‘Person’ is defined to be the intellectual habits, such as expertise, exploratory nature, and autonomy. ‘Place’ is considered to be the environment, circumstances, and reso urces that let creativity flourish. ‘Product’ is considered to be the execution of thoughts into the production of something of value, of note (Amabile 98). If creativity is looked upon in ancient backgrounds, it was not recognized by the renowned scholars such as Plato. It is known to have gained substance in the early Renaissance era, when creativity was attributed to God by Christians and Jews of that time who quoted verses from their holy books in arguments and scholarly discourse. It later became popular after the arrival of Darwinism and was promoted in the early 20th century by mathematicians such as Henri Poincare and Hermann von Helmholtz (Cropley 111). This popular rise caused scientists to separately study the subject of creativity, devise theories and techniques, and later associate creativity with education. However, the renewed interest and debate on current education curriculum, and the need for its amelioration are primarily owing to the launch of the â €Å"Sputnik 1,† by the Soviet Union in 1957. The supposed failure of engineers and scientists from the USA and other Western Countries was ascribed to their deficiency in creativity, which led to the founding of National Defense Education Act in the USA (Craft, Jeffrey, and Leibling). Incorporating creativity in education is foreseen to address many problems. It is presaged to bear benefits that will enable the present and the future generations to cope with the uncertain future, and the fast changing world. In addition, the most dominant of all benefits are economic benefits. The function of creativity in economy is considered vital for countries aiming to achieve greater economic stability, increased employment, and competitive edge in the world market. Therefore, the assimilation of creativity in education is considered imperative and indispensable, given the pace at which technology and competition are evolving. It is considered a fundamental skill for future generations to thrive in the New World. As a consequence, fostering creativity in children through education is called the production of ‘human capital,’ as Adam Smith states that the ‘wealth of nations’ is dependent on the ‘human capital’ of today and tomorrow (Craft 58). Although formal education is also imperative, it has been criticized repeatedly by theorists for restricting creativity and free thinking, and producing stereotypes and conformists. As a result, the ‘narrow’ scope of education institutions has come under question and has been blamed for manufacturing ‘robots.’ The pressing psychological impact on students to meet requirements of academic curriculum, the pressure

Strategy Management and Health Information Technology Essay

Strategy Management and Health Information Technology - Essay Example As will be discussed in the preceding sections, this level of organic growth was most heavily impacted with regards to the acquisition of several key firms that offered software and logistics solutions with regards to the application of EMR (Goodwin et al, 2013). Finally, the current business seeking to broaden upon the way in which the Canadian health system integrates with and understands/utilizes electronic medical records. This is of course something of a gamble as it cannot be definitively determined which direction the health and governmental organizations that control the system might develop. Nonetheless, this is a gamble that Telus Health has been willing to take. Telus Business Strategy: As with any firm, Telus Health is most supremely interested in maximizing profits. Likewise, in order to affect such an end, it is necessary for the firm to grow into new markets, integrate with new products, and gain a higher level of customers/sales. Although there are many means to affec t such an end, the particular business strategy that Telus Health has chosen to engage with can most definitively be described as one of acquisition. An acquisition strategy is a strategy that many firms/organizations would doubtless love to be able to pursue. However, there is a costly requirement in order to pursue such an end. Generally, firms that pursue an acquisition strategy have excess capital in reserve. In order to do this, it is necessary for the firm to of experienced a large degree of success in the past or to have assets that it is willing to leverage in order to affect such a strategy. A small company with extra capital may use an acquisition strategy to gain a competitive advantage. An acquisition strategy entails purchasing another company, or one or more product lines of that company. For example, a small grocery retailer on the east coast may purchase a comparable grocery chain in the Midwest to expand its operations. As the reader can see, the acquisition of KinL ogix, MD Practice Software LP, and Wolf EMR have all served to underscore the level and extent to which the firm is leveraging the strategy of acquisition in order to boost profits. Explanation of Telus Health broader objectives In order to gain a larger share of profitability, firms generally seek to make gambles with regards to what direction they believe the industry is moving towards (Business Policy and Strategy, 2010). Accordingly, many times such gambles pay off. Conversely, many firms see their profits and viability wither and died based upon incorrect calculations of future markets in the direction to which current trends are pointing. Likewise, Telus Health has made a significant gamble with regards to the current market and prospects of the way in which the Canadian healthcare system will integrate with EMR. As such, the reader can see that Telus Health has come to the understanding that EMR will dominate the Canadian healthcare system in the near future. Accordingly, Tel us Health desperately wants to be part of the transformation by acquiring as many EMR firms that coalesce with its mission and desired future mission as possible. This is done as

Introduction To External Migration And Internal Migration Marketing Essay

Introduction To External Migration And Internal Migration Marketing Essay Migration is the movement of people across a specified boundary for the purpose of establishing a new or semi-permanent residence. Migration included external migration and internal migration (Indepth Network, 2008). And this article would talk about the international migration (external migration), it means people migrate across the land and sea from different nations. There are some advantages of migration. First, people can enjoy a better living environment and a democratic, progressive and safety society which cannot get in their original country. Safety is the very important for persons to consider migration. Especially for people whose original countries are suffering a native disaster or social instability, like economy problem and progressive problem. At this time, they would like restart doing everything rather than stay in danger. Migration is the best choice to them (Tonita, 2010). Secondly, offer children an advanced education. Except that, for the rich Chinese immigrates, they would feel more safety, their money also would be taken care. Second, for some businessmen, migration offers a chance to develop their business. And live in other country, they can experience a cultural diversity and expand their living experiences, which would be easy for them to communication with others in business. There could be some possible drawbacks to immigrants. First, for most of countries, it reduces the skill people, like doctor, lawyer and accountant. And it leads to an environment where develop knowledge and resource is lost to another country. Secondly, if they do not have skill which country economy needs, it would be so hard for them to find or look for a job. And because of the high unemployment and less friend would create a very crime rate. Next, for kids migrate with their parentsat the early time. They are no longer acquiringtheir native language and custom (Attachment across culture, 2010).Moreover, sometimes during the process of migration, separation family members occurred immediately. Sometimes members migrate first, and others follow a few months or years later. That cause a lot of parents and children are separated in different countries (Attachment across culture, 2010). At this time, migration is not a good thing for them, they may lose their relationship, even worse, and immigration would destroy peoples life. Next, language is a biggest problem for them. Not all the people can migrate to countries which speak the same language with their hometown. So when they move to the country, they must overcome the language problem first. After migration, they will always experience some culture shock. By living, sometimes, they have to restart learning all the things. Like, language and skills, even they are not willing to. With Australia as an example, when people migrate to Australia, they must learn English that can ensure they can work and live well. Last, with so many immigrants move to the big city, it is so difficult to balance between males and females of the city population. Also cause the problems for the city, the city has to extensive housing programs and expand its water, electricity and communication facilities to meet all peoples needs (Arce and Alvarez, 2010). In my view, I disagree that people would abandon and corrupted the traditional valuesafter migration. This is because when we move to another place, we must adapt to the culture of the host country. This process of adapting is known as acculturation.Acculturation is the process of adjusting to the host culture by adopting its values, symbols and/or behaviour (Dwyer, 1999, p.25). Acculturation does not mean people will abandon their own traditional culture but they accept each others culture. For example, most Chinese move to USA, they usually would adapt to the new environment to meet the needs of studying, working and living. But that does not present they forget their traditional values. We still can see a lot of Chinatown around the world in different big cities. Chinatown is the place for most Chineseliving  together, and at that place, they open a lot of Chinese style shops.  In the Chinatowns of all over the world, we do not only see the Chinese. We see tourists and also the local people live, eat and shop there. This promotes cultural relativism. Cultural relativism is the recognition of cultural differences and acceptance that each social group has its own set of cultural norm(Dwyer, 1999, p. 26). The people who come to Chinatown accept the Chinese culture and they are fine with it.   Like, Chinese restaurant.   That is one of the ways for them to keep  the traditional things. Besides, they also celebrate the Chinese Traditional Days to develop their original culture. Like, Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival. And for Chinese people, wherever they are, Spring Festival is the biggest event, so, it is being celebrated all over the world in different way. And it is very good to see the Chinese culture on display. In Singapore, most of Singaporean is Chinese; they celebrate the Chinese New Year by a series of activities. For instance, lion dance. Chinese food is also very famous in the world. No matter where Chinese are; most of them develop the Chinese restaurant. And it is a very good opportunity to show world the Chinese culture with Chinese food. Besides for many businessman, the growing international business acquired them to work overseas as part of their career. And the key of their career success depends on the communication skill in an intercultural environment (Himstreet and Baty, 1987). In conclusion, people would not lose their traditional and core values after migration; they still can develop their culture and spread to the world. However, immigrants also need to learn new things to make sure get involved to the local and climb social ladder. Essay 2: Social network refer to a Web platform where people can build relationship with others who share the same interest, ideals, thoughts, activities and information (Powell, 2009; Safko and Brake, 2009). It offers a new way to communicate. The internet and online networking have come along way. Today, Internet is filled with millions of individuals who are looking to meet other people to gather and share first-hand information and experiences (Information Organizations in Asia and Oceania, 2010). Social networking websites like an online community of Internet users. And Facebook, Twitter and MySpace are the most popular and influence online social network system. These tools sometimes include more than 500 million registered users that host more than millions of photographs, such as Facebook (Facebook, 2010). And they aimed to help people to connect and socialize with one another. Whether you are from a small organisation or a multinational corporation, social network are changing the way we do business. Anyone can join in it for free. Besides, it can create a lot of new business opportunity in producing, distributing, communication. Thus, social networking is becoming most important strategy to develop your business. The reasons why companies spend a lot in social networking, because rely on the social network sites, like Facebook and Twitter are the ways to reach their customers and help them build the public relationship. Samuel Langhorne Clemens Essay -- Essays Papers

Samuel Langhorne Clemens Samuel Langhorne Clemens or commonly known as Mark Twain was an American writer and humorist. Twain’s writing is also known for realism of place and language, memorable characters, and hatred of bad faith and oppression. Clemens was born in Florida and then later on moved to Hannibal, Missouri, a Mississippi river port, when he was four years old. There he received a public school education. After his father died in 1847, Clemens was assisted to two Hannibal printers, and in 1851 he began contributing sketches to his brother Orion’s Hannibal Journal. Before long he was a master printer in Keokuk, Iowa; New York City; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and other cities. Later, Clemens was a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River until the American Civil War brought an end to travel on the river. In 1861 Clemens served briefly as a volunteer soldier in an irregular company of Confederate cavalry. Later that year he accompanied his brother to the newly created Nevada Territory, where he tried silver and gold mining. In 1862 he became a reporter on the Territorial Enterprise in Virginia City, Nevada, and in 1863 he began signing his articles with the assumed name â€Å"Mark Twain,† a Mississippi River phrase meaning â€Å"two fathoms† deep-safe water for a steamboat. After moving to San Francisco in 1864, Twain met the American writers Artemus Ward and Bret Harte, who encouraged him in his work. In 1865 Twain modified a tale he had heard in the California gold fields; within months the author and the story , â€Å"The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County,† had become national sensations. In 1867 Twain gave a piece of his mind in New York City, and in the same year he visited Europe and the Holy Land. He wrote of these travels in The Innocents Abroad (1869), a book burlesquing those aspects of Old World culture that impress American tourists. In 1870 he married Olivia Langdon. After living briefly in Buffalo, New York, they moved to Hartford, Connecticut. Much of Twain’s best work was written in the 1870s and 1880s in Hartford or during the summers at Quarry Farm, near Elmira, New York. Roughing It (1872) recounts his early adventures as a miner and journalist; The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) celebrates boyhood in a town on the Mississippi River; A Tramp Abroad (1880) describes a walking trip through the Black Forest of Germany ... ... not disappear after Emancipation, but instead were reenacted or reaffirmed, with even more rigorous definitions of whiteness, during the nineties when anti-black repression took multiple forms, legal and extralegal" (87-88). Twain's novel hints at both the racism of slavery as well as the racism of the world contemporary to his writing. In Latin America and the British West Indies, specific names were given to specific levels of miscegenation. Mulatto, or 1/2 white; sambo, or 1/4 white; quadroon, 3/4 white; mestizo, 7/8 white. Twain plays with these ridiculous levels of "whiteness" by making Roxy 1/16 black or 15/16ths white. Daring to be different Twain did not stop at mocking the racism of the world surrounding him but also attacked the false pride and self-importance that he saw in humanity. Never bowing before anyone Twain stepped up to the plate and wrote Bibliography: Clemens, Susy. â€Å"Papa, An Intimate Biography of Mark Twain.† 1985. Eaton, Jeanette. â€Å"America’s Own Mark Twain.† 1958. Hargrove, Jim. â€Å"Mark Twain, The Story of Samuel Clemens.†1959. Twain, Mark, ed. Charles Neider. â€Å"The Autobiography of Mark Twain.† First copyright 1917, this edition 1959.
